Well Debra had a good night she slept for 10 hours and didn’t move, didn’t turn over, didn’t snore, didn’t get up. But when they came to take blood this morning she was able to come around and get moving. She has gotten up and got dressed we are going to do a little walking today. She wants to see the sights around the hospital as well. She has seen the pictures but I think this is something everyone needs to see first hand. I am going to call our attendant and ask him to drive us around the city today while she can still enjoy it. Hopefully they wont give her so much medication today and she’ll be able to go with us. (She chickened out and didn’t want to go after all) All the sleep is not good for her lungs going into this type of surgery. They have someone working with her but they have to wake her up and she is dozing the whole time so it’s not as affective as they would like. The blood work this morning will let them know how much medication is in her system and if she can do without so much today. She is doing breathing exercises as I am writing this. She looks good today alert and speaking clearly. She was worried because no body was talking directly to her but I don’t think she even realized how under the influence she was of the medication. They talked to me because they wanted to know somebody in the room was getting it. I think she hears what they are saying but can’t really respond to it clearly. It’s not that she can’t talk to them she just talks really slowly. I feel for her discomfort because I know she knows what is going on and with so many people coming and going she is aware things are moving toward the day of surgery. Waiting is hard for her and it’s really hard for me to watch. Even with all the concern and comforts they try to give you it still makes you apprehensive. You’re not at home and the reality of that makes you anxious.
Yesterday I caused a rickshaw accident. The driver of one was so intent on waving and watching me he back ended the one in front of him and knocked it into the ditch. Trust me you never want to be in any kind of ditch here. A lot a screaming ensued and I got as far away from the area as fast as I could. I did (God forgive me I did take enough time to snap a picture of the mess) Wrecks are not that common here they honk and make themselves known. There is too much traffic not to be very careful even when you are walking. A sidewalk area can become a roadway.
Bharat the gentleman that is watch over us has told me he’ll take me anywhere I would like to go and stay with me. It is not ever necessary for me to be out without accompaniment. He has offered to take me to the Gateway of India and some of the more popular emporiums and restaurants for shopping experiences and traditional food. That food thing could be a problem so I think a dessert and coffee might be more in order than a meal. Even the coffee could be a problem it’s if truth be told different. I would hate to insult him.
Another tragic moment is I have melted down yet another hair appliance. My wonderful flat iron bit the dust this morning. Like others before it those converters just don’t seem to work with blow dryers or curling irons. I have used them with the lap top computers here and not had a problem. After figuring out how to tape them in to the sockets and prop them up using a jar and some books. David helped me with this clever method of electric expertise. He failed to tell me you have to insert an ink pen or a metal rod into the socket to release the opening for the prongs on the converter. I was just a little uncomfortable with doing that. We have a word for this in Texas it’s called duct taping but they have no duct tape in India. So we did some engineering of our own and made it work. Therefore Debra can work on her computer and watch her DVD’s. Unfortunately though I can’t do my hair. I am thankful that the water here makes it soft and just washing it and letting it air dry is enough to get me through.
I had a pretty rough night last night as Debra slept it’s not been that way for me. I check on her often to make sure everything is okay and watch over her during the night. It’s not like in the states they let you sleep at night and don’t come in after about 10ish. I had woken up about 2 in the morning and the computer was not working so I sat in darkness. I remembered Debra had a book light so I got it out and was just flipping through the bible looking at different things. I stop because I was so frazzled sometimes it just comes over you like that when you realize where you are and what your doing but I did go back to reading and I was on page 1550 of the NIV in Mark 6. The only words on that page that are written in red say this: “ Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.” Those words fall in with the story of Jesus feeding the Five Thousand. As I scanned the page the next thing that caught my eye said this in verse 21 Finally the opportune time came. The next thing just scanning now not reading every word it said he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. I closed the book and was able to go right to sleep. If you think the scriptures don’t speak directly to you think again. These words are written for you in your situation whatever it might be you just have to pay attention.
Since we have time to kill and Debra is not keen on running around with our escort we are going to take her down to the dentist office and have her teeth looked at. She needs a crown done. If it’s not very much we may have that done this afternoon rather than roam the streets of India. Much to my disappointment I don’t think Debra likes Bharat. After all I am $610.00 dollars to the good might as well make the best of it. A crown for her in the US is about $850. So if it’s less here guess what? I might have them look at me as well but I think I will let her go first. I am a chicken.
Somebody should have warned me about the fresh apple juice. It’s delicious and it’s easy to over do it, as it’s these wonderful tasty apples that are blended and pressed. Yummmmmmmmm but it’s not wise to have a glass everyday with breakfast. Bad things can happen to good people.
